Illegal Buildings on Mampang Riverbank to Be Demolished

Hundreds of illegal buildings along Mampang riverbank, South Jakarta, will be demolished by Jakarta Satpol PP tomorrow, Monday (8/18). The demolition is conducted because those buildings are one of the reasons why flood often hit South Jakarta area.

Head of Jakarta Satpol PP, Kukuh Hadi Santosa, said his party will involve South Jakarta Satpol PP as well as Jakarta Public Works Department. Therefore, Jakarta Public Works Department can directly build inspection road.

“We’ll try to finish the job in one day from schedule of two days. There will be (illegal buildings in) three urban villages demolished,” he disclosed, Sunday (8/17).

According to Santosa, this control is conducted based on instruction from Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama. Later, the residents affected by the demolition will be relocated to Komarudin Flat in Cipinang, East Jakarta.

Regarding the three urban villages where illegal buildings will be demolished, they are Tegal Parang, Mampang Prapatan, and Pela Mampang. Based on the data, those illegal buildings are inhabited by about 250 households.

“We have socialized local residents, so we’re not just demolished haphazardly. The urban village and sub-district heads also have moved to tell their residents,” told Santosa.

In this demolition, one amphibious excavator and one supporting excavator will be deployed to dredge the mud, clean the trashes on both sides of the river, as well as to demolish the illegal buildings.
