Sate Gepuk, One of Panggang Island's Delicious Local Dishes

Residents of Panggang Island, North Thousand Island Sub-district of Thousand Islands has a famous local dish called Sate Gepuk. It is a mackerel tuna dish wrapped in banana leaves.

It takes a long time to cook, but it tastes great with savory and spicy flavors

Mackerel tuna can be obtained easily in Panggang Island. Local people often use this fish for their local dishes, such as Sate Gepuk. It is made by grinding the fresh mackerel tuna and mixing it with spices. Then it is wrapped in banana leaves and grilled.

Suryati, one of RT 06/01 Panggang Island Urban Village residents who sells Sate Gepuk said, it takes about five hours to make Sate Gepuk.

"It takes a long time to cook, but it tastes great with savory and spicy flavors," she conveyed, Wednesday (4/3).

In order to make Sate Gepuk, she needs ingredients such as birdeye chillies, red chilies, shallots, candlenut, ginger, stew seasoning, grated coconut, and fresh mackerel tuna.

"I usually cook 10-25 kilograms of mackerel tuna every day. It can be consumed daily or even for parties,"  she explained.

She goes around Panggang Island and Pramuka Island to sell Sate Gepuk together with her children using a cart.

"The small one costs Rp 5 thousand and Rp 10 thousand for medium size. Customer can also order jumbo size or 1 kg of Sate Gepuk with price Rp 75 thousand," she added.
