Jalan Jaksa Festival Dominated by Street Vendors

Central Jakarta Administration once again held the Jalan Jaksa Festival in Kebon Sirih, Menteng, Central Jakarta, from Friday (8/22) until Saturday (8/23). No wonder, the festival is more crowded with the existence of street vendors than official stand from each sub-district in Central Jakarta.

This year, the festival is only participated from Menteng Sub-District

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the festival this year is different than last year. The enthusiasm of visitors and stands is indeed somewhat less. Along Jalan Jaksa, there were only 10 stands, in which two of them belong to Kebon Sirih Urban Village and one more belong to Menteng Sub-District, including tobacco company, culinary, clothing and souvenirs. Not only that, two entertainment stages located in parking lot of Sate Khas Senayan and in front of Morrisey Hotel also enlivened the event.

Head of Central Jakarta Tourism Sub-Department, Triyugo Prasetyo dislcosed that exhibition stand this year is quiet than last year. Last year, all sub-districts had participated the festival by setting up culinary and craft stands.

Kite Festival Postponed

"This year, the festival is only participated from Menteng Sub-District," he expressed, Friday (8/22).

But he asserted that his sub-department did not give space for street vendors during the festival. Even so he could not do much with the existence of street vendors.

"We do not give space to street vendors, yet they are citizens of Jalan Jaksa. The important is they have to trade order and clean," he expressed.

Meanwhile, Jakarta City Secretary, Saefullah hopes the festival can open up space and opportunity for creators, the young peple who have the initiative to show their creativity. Such festival is also hoped to bring back the spirit in order to show positive results.

"Hopefully, the festival this year would be a momentum for the revival of the spirit," he hoped.
