228 Hawksbill Eggs Rescued from Sebira Island West Coast

With Sebira Island Hawksbill Turtle Conservation Center, the Thousand Islands Environment Sub-agency rescued 228 eggs on the Sebira Island West Coast, Harapan Island Urban Village, North Thousand Islands, on Tuesday (8/27).

Agung, Chairperson of Sebira Island Hawsbill Turtle Conservation Center said that those eggs were found when the mother was laying eggs.

"60 days ahead, they would hatch and then released to the wild," he expressed.

669 Hawksbill Eggs Rescued from Extinction

He explained hatching egg is conducted through a 25-liter bucket container system, which aims to get the success levels around 95 percent.

Surely it needs support from related unit to procure buckets for hatching them.

"This method has been done since last June and managed to hatch 183 out of 188 eggs," he told.

Community Participation and Legal Structuring Division Head, Ardian Prahara appreciated the awareness of citizens who have cared about the existence of hawksbill turtles.

"Besides being protected, they are also endangered. Thanks to those who have kept it from extinction," he stressed.
