The Jakarta Information Commission (KI) held KI Goes to Civil Society themed "Culture of Public Information Disclosure is the Key to Successful Development" in the Jakarta's Prof. Dr. Hamka Muhammadiyah University (UHAMKA) to socialize Act number 14/2008 on openness of public information, on Tuesday (9/10).

In this socialization, Jakarta KI Commissioner for Institutional, Wa Ode Asmawati said, the community is expected to understand the duties of the Information Commission as an independent institution that encourages public information disclosure.

"We want to increase people's participation in realizing a good, transparent, accountable and pro-people government system," he expressed.

Through Jakarta KIP, Openness of Public Information Socialized to PPID

Jakarta KI Vice Commissioner, Nani Nurani Muksin added that it could increase participants' understanding of community rights in public information disclosure and participate actively in it.

"If you can open it, why should be closed? Communities and students must know their rights to public information and use it to participate in the public interest," he explained.

This socialization was part of a series of activities commemorating the momentum of International Right to Know Day, which is celebrated every September 28.

"All people have the right to know," he stressed.

Jakarta Aisyiyah Secretary, Syamsidar Siregar expressed that it i s very important to make them know their rights to public information.

"They can also find out government policies that are pro-people. Thus can oversee and control the policy," he told.

On the other hand, one of the speakers, Syahrul Hasan uttered that important information was from the correct party based on facts.

"Every public body must disclose public information to the community in order to encourage public information disclosure," he said.
