Cannot Fishing, Hundreds of Fishermen Complain to Jokowi

Around 500 fishermen from Kalibaru-Cilincing, North Jakarta, staged a demonstration in front of Jakarta City Hall building, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (9/9). They demand Jakarta Governor, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo to revoke the Decree of Livestock, Fishery, and Marine Sub-Department on Fishing Ban dated on June 1, 2014.

Fishermen Complained Polluted Jakarta`s SeaThe citizen of Kalibaru Barat 7, Cilincing, North Jakarta stated the fishermen were banned fishing because of their fishing equipment has ruined the environment. "Another reason is presidential election has not been ended, whereas we have unemployed for 3.5 months," he complained.
He disclosed that Fishery Sub-Department also had asked fishermen to replace fishing equipment with new ones due to it does not according to the standard. "Our equipment was already replaced by Fishery Sub-Department but it is deemed not in accordance with the standard. Moreover, it has been ongoing half months," he explained.
Abdullah was also disappointed with the attitude of the North Jakarta Administration which did not clearly give information on fishing equipment which does not according to the procedure. "Supposedly, if it is not violating the procedure, just tell us the truth," he lamented.
According to him, the fishermen were agree on test of fishing equipment type trawl (to net fish) by related unit. "Just do the test if our equipment is not in accordance with the standard," he stressed.
He explained hundreds of fishermen had held demonstration four times and asked pay attention from Jakarta Governor to contribute in solving it. "This demonstration is the fourth time, but there has been no further action. Even there is no mediation from mayor," he finished.
