Let's Enjoy Betawi Dishes at Jakarta Culinary Festival This Weekend

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department (Disparbud) holds Jakarta Culinary Festival at Zona A of Setu Babakan Betawi Cultural Village, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta on November 1-3, 2019.

Jakarta Disparbud's Destination and Marketing Division Head, Shinta Nindyawati conveyed, her side wants to promote culinary richness in Jakarta, especially Betawi culinary through this Jakarta Culinary Festival.

"Jakarta Culinary Festival is held to promote and re-introduce the classic Betawi culinary dishes that are nearly extinct," she explained, Saturday (11/2).

This festival, she added, is also enlivened with cooking competition for Betawi dishes that is divided into 3 categories for students, PKK cadres, and public.

For student category, participants are required to make Betawi snacks such as kue cubit and kue talam.

"There are four vocational schools (SMK)s in Jakarta that participate in this category. Those are SMK Negeri 30, SMK Negeri 1 Tambun, SMK Patria and SMK Paskita Global," she conveyed.

Meanwhile for PKK category, participates compete to make Betawi food and beverages such as gabus pucung and bir pletok.

"Participants are the representative of PKK cadres who won cooking contest held in six Jakarta regions, including Thousand Islands," she said.

Then for public category, he continued, participants compete to make sayur ketupat babanci and bir pletok which are served in mocktail style.

"It is open for public and professionals who run restaurant or cafe. We also want to introduce variety of bir pletok and gabus pucung based on their concoction and recipe modification," she stated.

By presenting gabus pucung, sayur ketupat babanci and bir pletok in mocktail style, her side expected it could be a welcome drink in star hotels in Jakarta.

"We want the winners to join international competition. We hope this culinary can help to promote our tourist destinations," he stated.

For information, Jakarta Culinary Festival is also enlivened with bazaar, workshop, and Betawi culinary cooking demo by famous chef.
