City's Social Agency Commemorates International Disability Day

The Jakarta Dept. of Social Service (Dinsos) held a series of activities to commemorate International Disability Day at the East Jakarta Gelanggang Remaja, Jalan Otto Iskandardinata Raya.

We also want to increase public awareness and understanding of people with disabilities

The event that raised the theme "Indonesia Inclusion, Excellent Disability" was attended by 500 people with disabilities from five regions of Jakarta.

Head of the Jakarta Dept. of Social Service, Irmansyah said, this activity aims to help people with disabilities to carry out self-actualization and see and measure the potential and abilities possessed by people with disabilities.

"We also want to increase public awareness and understanding of people with disabilities, and remove negative stigma about people with disabilities," he said, Monday (12/16).

Irmansyah explained, the event was enlivened with disability creativity contest activities such as individual singing, individual dancing, individual stand up comedy, individual painting, and team dancing.

Meanwhile, the event also held talk show about the Implementation of Law No. 8/2016 for People with Disabilities, which is associated with the main tasks and functions of each agency.

"In this activity we also give awards for athletes with disability student achievements in multi national disability sport events at Peparpenas in 2019," he explained.

He hopes, Jakarta is expected to become a city that is increasingly disability friendly and people with disabilities can be accepted and recognized their rights.

"Jakarta Provincial Government can realize accessibility to buildings and facilities in the city," he closed.
