City Prohibits Poultry Slaughter Activities in Residential Areas

Jakarta Provincial Government continuously doing various efforts to prevent avian influenza (AI) disease, or commonly known as bird flu, from spreading. One of the ways done is by prohibiting poultry slaughter activities in residential areas.

Early next year, there should be no more slaughterhouse in any residential area

“There are many diseases nowadays, like bird flu, ebola, et cetera. We (Jakarta Provincial Government) must be dare to act firm. Early next year, there should be no more slaughterhouse in any residential area,” asserted Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama, Monday (9/22).

Basuki realized this policy would be getting rejections from the citizens who open slaughterhouse business.

Preventing Poultry Virus, RPU in South Jakarta will Be Relocated

“People would say no, say there was no socialization. But rather than having people died, we better act firmly. That’s what Mr. Governor wants,” he said.

For information, the prohibition on poultry keeping and slaughtering in residential area is actually stated in Governor Regulation No. 5/2007. For poultry owners who do not join certification, they will be sanctioned by annihilating their poultry.

Jakarta Provincial Government will also gradually relocate poultry trading places and slaughterhouses to provided locations. All costs are covered by the city government. In addition, the traffic of poultry coming into the capital city will also be regulated.
