The Jakarta Environment Agency appreciates the commitment of all traditional markets in Jakarta that will ban a single-use plastic bag in July 2020.

It will be effective and successful if we move together

It is a form of synergy between local governments, business actors and consumers as a determinant of the successful implementation of policies on the use of environmentally friendly shopping bags.

"It will be effective and successful if we move together," expressed Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Andono, Thursday (1/30).

Here are The Pioneers of Plastic Free Market in Jakarta

According to him, the Gubernatorial Regulation number 142/2019 on Obligations to Use Environmentally Friendly Shopping Bags in Shopping Centers, Supermarkets and Traditional Markets regulates each market must apply the use of Environmentally Friendly Shopping Bags (KBRL) for all market entrepreneurs.

"The market management must do socialization and announcement to all market entrepreneurs about this policy," he explained.

In addition, each market may not provide single-plastic bags and implement the socialization procedure of the use of environmentally friendly shopping bags to consumers.

"There are 8 Chapters and 30 Articles in the Gubernatorial Regulation number142/2019 which in principle reduce waste by using environmentally friendly shopping bags that can be reused," he explained.

In the meantime, Perumda Pasar Jaya Business and Development Director Anugrah Esa uttered all markets under his party are obligated to comply with this regulation.

"We want them not to use single-plastic bag on July 1 and immediately hold socialization," he exclaimed.

This policy is a concrete step from Perumda Pasar Jaya, as the traditional market is one of the major contributors to producing waste in Jakarta.

"Every day the market produces 600 tons of waste, But if we fixate on this policy, waste volume in Jakarta will decrease significantly," he said.
