Here are The Pioneers of Plastic Free Market in Jakarta

Tebet Barat and Tebet Timur Traditional Markets will be the pioneers of plastic free market in Jakarta in order to implement Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 142/2019 about Obligation to Use Environmentally Friendly Shopping Bags at Shopping Centers, Supermarkets and Traditional Markets.

This policy is welcomed by the traders and they are willing to be the pioneers

Jakarta Environment (LH) Department Head, Andono Warih conveyed, this Pergub will be implemented effectively per July 1, 2020, but traders in those markets have committed to start using eco-friendly shopping bags.

"This policy is welcomed by the traders and they are willing to be the pioneers. They will be the first who implement free disposable plastic bag policy starting from end of February 2020," he explained, Wednesday (1/22).

South Jakarta Intensifies Socialization on Use of Eco-friendly Shopping Bag

According to him, eco-friendly shopping bag is made from recyclable materials and designed for repeated use.

"Our purpose is to encourage people to reduce plastic waste that is hard to decompose by bringing our own eco-friendly shopping bags," he asserted.

He informed, Pergub No. 142/2019 mentioned that all managements of shopping centers, supermarkets and traditional market must require all tenants in their building to use eco-friendly bags and prohibit them from using disposable plastic shopping bags

"Managements are required to inform all of their tenants about this policy. Besides, tenants should also provide eco-friendly shopping bags," he stated.
