Public Minivans in Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal Ticketed

The ranks of joint personnel of Jakarta Transportation Department, City Police Traffic Unit, and Military Command Garnisun have ticketed 150 public minivans during raid against illegal parking in the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal, East Jakarta, Monday (9/22).

We'll evaluate for a week. Officers of Transportation Department and police will keep guarding the terminal. If there are public minivans stop haphazardly, we will control them

Those public minivans were ticketed because of they pick up and drop off passengers haphazardly under Kampung Melayu Flyover, conduct contra flow, as well as use Transjakarta bus lanes. It caused traffic congestion along Jalan Otista Raya, Jalan Jatinegara Barat, and Jalan Jatinegara Timur. There was no protest from public minivan drivers and they only resigned. 

Sub-Directorate Head of Training and Law Enforcement for City Police Traffic Unit, Adj. Sr. Cmr. Hindarsono disclosed his party has targeted the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal due to he received many complaints from local residents. Every day, hundreds of public minivans often seen pick up and drop off passengers outside terminal and conduct contra flow, causing congestion, particularly at rush hour.

"Last week, we had implemented traffic engineering and installed a MCB separator at Transjakarta bus corridor in order to sterile its lane from public minivan," he expressed.

For a week, the police will continue to monitor and guard such terminal. If there is found illegal parking, we will act decisively in forms of speeding ticket and tow sanction to Goods Terminal and Pulogebang Tool, Cakung.

Head of East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Benhard Hutajulu uttered that all public minivans should enter to terminal and prohibited to stop and find passengers under Kampung Melayu Flyover. As for the motorcycle-taxi drivers, he prohibits them to stop and pass in the terminal
