The raid against qurban (sacrificed) animal traders who are selling on sidewalks or public facilities on Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (9/30), ended chaotic. To avoid bigger chaos, Satpol PP officers were pulled back.

Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP Operational Section, Maruli Sijabat, stressed that his party prioritizes persuasive approach in enforcing Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order. That is why in the raid Satpol PP personnel are not equipped with equipments like bats and shields.

“We’re dealing with people. Why would face them like facing the enemy? We also want to save the public. Besides, it (the chaos), happened on the street,” he uttered.

According to Sijabat, his party has predicted there would be rejections from qurban traders regarding this operation. Whereas, Jakarta Provincial Government has done socialization and urged the traders not to sell in prohibited locations.
