Dewi Ambarwati (30), a citizen of Cipinang, Pulogadung who is a nurse of Premier Jatinegara Hospital, East Jakarta has recounted her experience handling coronavirus patients that has been done since March 12.

When she first served, she had difficulties to attach IVs with patients who could reach five to eight people a day.

Story of Nurul who Left Her Family for COVID-19 Patients

"Sometimes it is difficult to find the location of a patient's blood vessels. So we had to use a three-layer handscoon," she told Beritajakarta.id, Sunday (4/19).

She also shared her experience when wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which can take up to 7-11 hours following the field situation. The discomfort of wearing PPE was mixed with the fatigue, thirst and hunger that she had to endure.

"It was very hot, my fingers were stiff and my view was unclear because of the dewy faceshield. But I have no choice for the safety's sake," she expressed.

Even she should also keep a distance with her toddler and family members after finishing her duty from the hospital and arriving home.

"As much as possible I keep a distance and separate rooms with other family members. Moreover, I have a toddler," said the mother of two kids.

Nevertheless she felt fortunate that her struggle against the COVID-19 had the full support of her family and closest relatives.

"Alhamdulillah my family supports me. They always calm me down. Hopefully this pandemic ends quickly thus we can all gather again at home," she hoped.
