Jakarta Transportation Agency together with Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate is promoting the odd-even license plate policy to road users at the HI Roundabout, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday (8/2).

The policy itself is scheduled on August 3. But for the first three days, the police have not taken action, only socialization and verbal warning to the violators.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Luputo said the traffic jam in Jakarta had begun to increase lately, even at some points had surpassed the volume of traffic prior to COVID-19 pandemic.

He uttered the odd-even license plate policy was made to support health protocols in order to suppress the COVID-19 positive numbers in Jakarta such as, limiting the capacity of people and maintaining physical distancing in offices and activity centers.

"Based on Gubernatorial Regulation number 51/2020, in certain situations, there are two emergency breaks that can be applied, one of which is odd-even license plate policy," he explained.

Even, since the SIKM was stopped on July 14, he furthered, the instrument of limiting the movement of people in Jakarta automatically ceased to exist.

Thereby the traffic restriction policy using the odd-even system had become an instrument for the city government's efforts to restrict people.
