BKOW Holds Blood Donation and Distributes Social Assistance

Jakarta Province Women's Organization Cooperation Agency (BKOW) held blood donation and distributed social assistance at Menteng Atas Urban Village Office, Setiabudi Sub-district, South Jakarta.

Local residents seemed enthusiastic welcoming those social activities. As many as 270 residents registered themselves as blood donor and 196 of them managed to donor their blood. Besides, 300 social assistance packages also distributed in this event.

Jakarta Province BKOW Chairperson, Ellisa Sumarlin conveyed, blood donation event held to overcome shortage of blood stocks in Jakarta during COVID-19 pandemic.

In average, the need for blood stock in Jakarta reached above 1,000 blood bags per day. But, currently PMI can only collect around 100-200 blood bags per day due to COVID-19 pandemic.

"Of course, as Jakarta residents, we can't let this situation to continue by doing nothing. Thus BKOW as the coordinating body for women's organization in Jakarta feels called to take a part in overcoming blood shortage in Jakarta," she mentioned, Monday (9/14).

BKOW Chairperson, as well as wife of Jakarta Vice Governor, Ariza Patria conveyed, blood donation also carried out to strengthen solidarity between Jakarta people in the middle of pandemic.

"Through this event, we hope we can continue to maintain solidarity and caring among Jakarta residents during this pandemic. This is the first BKOW activity, but with God willing, it will be held regularly in the future," she said.

Jakarta Vice Governor, Ariza Patria conveyed his appreciation to Jakarta Province BKOW for holding blood donation and distributing social assistance packages. According to him, blood donation is very important to strengthen humanity towards people who need blood, especially in the current situation.

"Blood can't be stored for too long. Thus it needs fresh blood supplies. It becomes our responsibility to maintain the availability of blood stock in PMI thus people's need of blood can be fulfilled," he explained.

Jakarta Government, he added, continues to encourage Jakarta residents to donor their blood, especially during the disaster, fire, plague, including COVID-19.

"We continue to encourage PMI to increase number of blood donors throughout Jakarta, both from government agencies, organizations, professions, business, students, and elements of society," he stated.

This blood donation event was held from collaboration between several organizations, including BKOW, Jakarta PMI, Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Daerah Jaya, student regiments (Menwa), and et cetera.

This event was attended by Jakarta Province BKOW Chairperson, Ellisa Sumarlin; Jakarta Vice Governor, Ariza Patria; Persit Kartika Chandra Kirana Daerah Jaya, Rahmah Dudung Abdurrahman; Blood Donation Committee Chairperson, Samsidar Siregar; South Jakarta Secretar, Munjirin; Setiabudi Sub-district Head, Sri Yuliani Saraswati, Menteng Atas Sub-district head, H. Zulkarnaen, as well as representatives from Jakarta Provincial BKOW, Jakarta PMI, student regiment (Menwa), TNI-Police, and Setiabudi Sub-district residents.
