Facing rainy season, Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency ensures 28 trash screens which installed in 13 major rivers in Jakarta are in good condition.

Jakarta LH Agency's Water Body Unit (UPK) Head, Yayat Supriyatna mentioned, his side ensured to do maintenance routinely on those trash screens to prevent technical problems when operating.
Each trash screens were equipped with automatic trash collecting machine (MEH) around 4 to 6 units.
LH Agency Develops Jakarta Recycle CenterBased on SOP, all machines will operate fully when there is extreme local rain for 2 hours and could potentially carry large amount of waste.
However, if the weir effect has a potential to cause flooding and inundation in the surrounding area, then sluice gates will be opened.
"Indicator of weir effect is there is a difference in water level of 50 centimeters. Although some garbage might be carried away by the current, we have trash screens along 13 rivers to trap the garbage, thus our personnel can clean the garbage from those locations," he explained, Friday (10/16).
At each trash screen locations, his side also placed 2 garbage transporter units and it could be added if it needed.
"Waste volume in each trash screen is vary, but we will make sure to place 1-2 garbage transporter units if the condition is not too extreme," he mentioned.
Jakarta LH Agency, he added, has also prepared temporary waste dumpsite (emplacement) locations in Pluit, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Sentiong, and TB Simatupang.
"All trash screens can be functioned well, but even if there is problem, we will fix it immediately. Because it is part of our preparation and anticipation in facing rainy season," he asserted.
For information, there are two trash screens installed in Central Jakarta, 11 trash screens in North Jakarta, 6 trash screens in West Jakarta, 4 trash screens in South Jakarta, and 5 trash screens in East Jakarta.
