Jakarta Marathon Promotes City’s Icons

The implementation of the 2014 Jakarta Marathon is expected would boost the amount of foreign tourist visit in the capital city. Furthermore, the routes passed by the runners are places that being Jakarta’s special icons.

“The Jakarta Marathon event is multifunction. Besides as sports event, this activity also promotes tourism destinations and Jakarta’s icons to the international world,” stated Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Arie Budhiman, Sunday (10/26).
According to Budhiman, the routes were designed for the marathon participants to be able to see the historical tourism sites in the city. among those sites are the Monumen Nasional (Monas), Kota Tua, Fatahillah Museum, Istiqlal Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque, National Museum, Cathedral Church, and Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout.

Jakarta Marathon has become an annual event. The event is expected to be equal as similar event in other countries, like Tokyo Marathon (Japan), Boston Marathon (USA), and Paris Marathon (France).
“We will promote it (Jakarta Marathon) there, because we have fix calendar. This event is expected would increase tourists to come here,” said Budhiman.
