Jakarta Starts Campaign on Violence Against Women and Children

Jakarta Child Protection and Empowerment and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) has started a 16-Day Campaign on Violence Against Women and Children.

We must have the courage to report what happened so that cases of violence can be avoided in our families

It is held in the context of the momentum of commemorating the International Day of Violence against Women on November 25 and International Human Rights Day on December 10.

The campaign takes the theme 'Don't be Afraid to Talk, Protect Women and Children' with the tagline Stop Violence of Women and Children, Don't Be Silent to Report Immediately, and Jakarta Without Violence.

It is held in the form of webinars, dissemination of campaign materials via videotron or infographics on information channels of the Jakarta Provincial Government, formation of Jakarta Women and Children Post (SAPA) and increasing community participation through the Tik Tok Contest.

Jakarta TP PKK Chairwoman Fery Farhati expressed, it is a momentum that needs to be used to voice and take part in efforts to encourage the elimination of violence against women and children.

"We can't do alone but we all need to take part and take responsibility by participating in this activity to enrich ourselves with useful information for the people around us. This is also a form of endeavor and a reward for all of us," she expressed, on the sidelines of the campaign opening, Wednesday (11/25).

She hoped that this event could attract many other parties in order to support the aim of this activity.

"We must have the courage to report what happened so that cases of violence can be avoided in our families," she stressed.

Jakarta PPAPP Agency Head Tuty Kusumawati said it was done in the form of a webinar series with speakers from the academic community of higher education.

She added the agency was collaborating with various regional apparatus, social institutions, observing institutions for women and children, as well as 10 private universities namely UKI, UHAMKA, Budi Luhur, Unindra, Yarsi, Atmajaya, MH Thamrin University, STIE IPWIJA, STIK Carolus and Karya Husada Polytechnic.

Daily themes in this webinar series included the prevention of violence in public places, children and education during the pandemic, women and the world of work, child labor, reproductive health, security access to JakWiFi, smart social media, and the crime of trafficking in persons.

It was expected to improve knowledge, concern and participation of all elements of society not to dare to speak, do not be silent and immediately report when they see or even experience violence in their surroundings.

"Because silence won't protect women and children from violence," she closed.
