SDA Unit Temporarily Repairs the Collapsed Baru River's Retaining Wall and Embankment

Retaining wall and embankment of Baru River which collapsed at RT 05/01 Tengah Urban Village, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, have been temporarily repaired on Wednesday (1/20), while waiting for Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency to handle it technically.

It is only temporary, while waiting for technical handling from SDA Sub-agency

Tengah Urban Village Head, Tarmiji conveyed, for initial handling, his side deployed 30 SDA Unit personnel and PPSU personnel to build temporary embankment by using dolken woods and sandbags to prevent water running into settlements.

"It is only temporary, while waiting for technical handling from SDA Sub-agency. Because if we just leave like that, water can overflow into settlements whose position is lower than Baru River," he stated.

Kramat Jati Sub-district SDA Unit Head, Muchlis said, the collapsed retaining wall and embankment has about 60 meters long. However, it needs permanent repair to prevent landslides, thus his side has reported it to East Jakarta SDA Sub-agency to repair it and extend the retaining wall into 270 meters with height 3 meters.

According to him, construction of this retaining wall and embankment is quite old thus water often seeps.

"The construction has been decades, so it has many small holes. Therefore, we propose for permanent repair along 270 meters and height 3 meters," he mentioned.

On the other hand, RW 01 Tengah Urban Village Head, Suparman informed, Baru River water rises when the rain falls and it often seeps and causes inundation in the surrounding settlements. About 200 residents' houses in RT 01, 10, and 02 are often inundated with water up to 60 centimeters high.

"After completing the initial handling, we hope SDA Sub-agency can be quick to repair it permanently. Thus there will be no landslides in the future," he closed.
