Dishub Builds Permanent Bicycle Lane Along Sudirman-Thamrin

Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) prepared permanent bicycle lane on Jalan Sudirman - Jalan M.H. Thamrin as implementation of transportation policies for priority of handling non-motorized vehicles and as a response of increasing number of cyclists in Jakarta.

Jakarta Dishub Head, Syafrin Liputo mentioned, permanent bicycle lane construction is a part of program called 'Jakarta Ramah Bersepeda' or 'Cycling-Friendly Jakarta'.
"By constructing permanent bicycle lane, we want to make bicycle as a preferred and alternative transportation mode for the first mile and last mile trip to support transit-oriented transportation policies, provide sense of security and comfort for cyclists in Jakarta, and make Jakarta to be a humanistic, sustainable, and environmentally friendly city," he stated, on Friday (2/5), as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.
Jakarta Government Appreciates Private Parties for Facilitating Cyclists in JakartaHe explained, the permanent bicycle lane construction will be carried out in February-March along 11.2 kilometers from Jalan Sudirman to Jalan M.H. Thamrin which equipped with protected bicycle lane with width 2 meters.
"We use planter box with chain-shaped to protect bicycle lane," he added.
This permanent bicycle lane will be equipped with several facilities for cyclists, including wayfinding, footrest at bicycle lane intersection, and rest area in form of bike rack on the sidewalk.
At the same time, inscription is also built as a bicycle artwork with ornaments depicting Jakarta landmarks and bicycle which located on sidewalk. This permanent bicycle lane will be integrated with mass public transport service facilities, including 9 Transjakarta bus stops, 6 MRT Jakarta stations, 1 Commuter Line Train station, 1 Airport Train (Railink) station and 1 Jabodebek LRT station.
"We need participation and support of all stakeholders in Jakarta Government and Jakarta residents to participate in campaigning for Cycling-Friendly Jakarta program by making permanent bicycle lane construction on Jalan Sudirman - Jalan M.H. Thamrin a success," he closed.
