Rain Throughout Jabodetabek Area, Residents and Personnel Must Be Alert

Heavy rain in Jakarta and its surrounding since early Saturday (2/20) has caused inundation and flooding in several locations. Acording to weather radar image from Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at 01:30 AM today, moderate-heavy rain was fall evenly in Jabodetabek area. This condition caused inundation and flooding in several locations in Jakarta.

Flooding is currently handled by Water Resources, Gulkarmat, and Urban Village PPSU and targeted the flood to recede quickly

According to data from Jakarta BPBD until 6 AM on Saturday (2/20), several locations were still flooded.

East Jakarta Gulkarmat Deploys 22 Rubber Boats to Evacuate Residents

Jakarta BPBD Acting Chief Executive, Sabdo Kurnianto explained, 29 RWs in South Jakarta were affected by flood, consisting of 44 RTs with water level of 40-150 cm, with total evacuees of 7 families or 19 people.

In East Jakarta, there were 50 RWs affected by flood, consisting of 143 RTs with water level reached 40-180 cm, and total evacuees of 372 families or 1,361 people. In West Jakarta, there were 4 RWs and 6 RTs were affected by flood.  

"Overall, 193 RTs from total 30,470 RTs in Jakarta are flooded with percentage of 0.633%. While number of evacuees reaches 379 families or 1,380 people. Several areas are still flooded due to high rainfall and overflowing Ciliwung River, Krukut River, and Pesanggrahan River in South Jakarta, as well as PHB Sulaiman, Sunter River, Cipinang River in East Jakarta," he informed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID Press Release.

Therefore, Jakarta Government collaborated with TNI/Police, local urban villages, volunteers, and local residents to be prepared to face all the possibilities. They were expected to be vigilant by monitoring the latest weather developments to respond quickly to upcoming situation and gain strength from various sides and work together in handling flood.

So far, no casualties have been reported and cross-sectoral agencies of Jakarta Government have been immediately deployed to the field to handle flood thus it can recede as soon as possible.

"There are no casualties in this incident. Flooding is currently handled by Water Resources, Gulkarmat, and Urban Village PPSU and targeted the flood to recede quickly. We also deploy personnel to monitor the situation in locations prone to flooding," he added.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and improve their preparedness. If there is an emergency situation, they can contact Call Center 112 or report inundation/flooding through JAKI application and disaster maps. Besides, people were encouraged to comply with 3M health protocols, by wearing mask, washing hands, and maintaining safe distance.

Jakarta Government calls on the communities to collaborate to ease the burden on evacuees in Jakarta. Currently, they really needs assistance in form of logistics, boats, foods, drinks, medic kits, family kits,mattresses, blankets, and masks.
