North Jakarta Presents IKRA to Improve Reading Culture

The North Jakarta Library and Archives Sub-agency (Pusip Sudin), held the Aksara Brief Family Initiative (IKRA), which aims to improve interest and reading culture in society.

North Jakarta Pusip Sub-agency Head Wahyu Prabowo revealed, 20 urban villages in North Jakarta are targeted in this year.

"We are also targeting other urban villages in the following year," he expressed, Monday (3/1).

South Jakarta Pusip Distributes 200 Books for IKRA Program

He explained, the execution time is divided into four quarters. First quarter was in Tanjung Priok and Tugu Selatan on February 22, followed by Pegangsaan Dua, Semper Timur and Ancol, as well as other urban villages in the following year.

"We have distributed around 100 books in each village and will be continued to RT/RW in their respective regions," he explained.

He went on to say that those books will be distributed to be lent to each family for 14 days where each family received two books. After that the book was returned, it will be sent to urban village. Afterwards each family are required to make a summary of the books they had read. They recorded it in video form and then sent it to the sub-agency.

"These videos will undergo selection stage. Surely they are automatically registered as members of the Jakarta library. We will give the five best participants will receive certificates and also goodie bags," he continued.

The various books distributed are educational books, religious books, textbooks, children's story books, fiction books, etc. To smoothen it, the sub-agency involved 15 personnel of ASN and PJLP.

He added it is a literacy activity with the aim of becoming a positive alternative activity for the community, especially amid the pandemic, to facilitate public access to reading books and foster participants, especially North Jakarta, to support Jakarta as a city of literacy and a reading culture.

"Nowadays, it is a sophisticated era where all things are facilitated by gadgets, including literacy, but we still do and preserve conventional ways, namely reading books in physical form," he stated.
