Pertamina Oil Spill Widening, Thousand Islands Says

We hope the related units to immediately take quick action to minimize its environmental impact

After the waters of Untung Jawa Island, Pari and Lancang islands, Pari Island Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district also have been affected by the oil spill from the state energy giant Pertamina’s Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) that has been polluting the sea since yesterday, Sunday (4/25).

"To handle it, personnel of PPSU and PJLP have been deployed to the location," expressed Pari Island Urban Village Head, Mahtum, Monday (4/26).

He explained, they had transported around 100 sacks of oil. However, the oil spill was continuously polluting the coastal area and worried that it could disrupt the activities of residents and tourists, as well as damages the ecosystem.

"We are starting to record the losses of the residents. We hope the related units to immediately take quick action to minimize its environmental impact," he explained.

Thousand Islands Regency Council, Robin had contacted the Pertamina to soon handle it considering the oil was continuously spilling over to Untung Jawa Island.

"Until yesterday afternoon, we managed to transport around 534 sacks and temporarily stored in TPS of RW 01 and 03," he stated.
