May Day 2021, City Collaborates with Manpower Stakeholders to Hold Social Activities

Commemorating International Labor Day or May Day 2021, Jakarta Government holds various positive activities in form of joint efforts to accelerate regional and national economic recovery by raising theme 'Spirit of Collaboration' which is in line with National May Day's theme of 'May Day: Recover Together' in context of joint recovery due to COVID-19 pandemic.

We commemorate it by holding various positive activities

Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration (Nakertrans) and Energy Agency Head, Andri Yansyah said, this year's May Day commemoration which falls on May 1, 2021 is the right momentum to start over by working together, innovating, and building a better Indonesia.

"We commemorate it by holding various positive activities according to the current condition of COVID-19 pandemic. In form of social activity, together we take a concrete step to participate in easing burden on laborers affected by COVID-19,"he said as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release, Saturday (5/1).

209 Worker Cards Distributed on May Day

Here are activities that will be carried out in commemorating May Day 2021:

1. Jakpreneur Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) product bazaar which held in shopping centers across 5 regions of Jakarta. It is held in collaboration with Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Agency;

2. Distributing assistance in form of 4,644 staple food packages and 575 sanitary kits to laborers and their families who affected by COVID-19 pandemic, through collaboration with Nakertrans and Energy Agency and Sub-agencies;

3. Distributing 300 social assistance packages to health workers at Wisma Atlet Kemayoran in form of cookies;

4. COVID-19 vaccination which implemented through collaboration with Manpower Ministry, Health Ministry, Jakarta KADIN, and Jakarta DPP APINDO to 200 laborers who directly related to the community in carrying out their work thus they have greater vulnerability to exposure to COVID-19.

This year's May Day is expected to build harmonious and sustainable industrial relations between workers, employers, and government. "It is hoped that labor turmoil that we have faced so far can decrease, considering the employers and workers/laborers are basically not competitors, but partners who must cooperate in order to create a symbiotic mutualism," he conveyed.

Furthermore, vaccination is expected to be a momentum to initiate COVID-19 vaccination program for laborers to accelerate recovery of regional and national economy.

This activity was held through collaboration between Jakarta Nakertrans and Energy Agency, Health Agency, Industry Trade Cooperative and Small Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Agency, and labor stakeholders, namely Health Ministry, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Jamsostek) Jakarta, BPJS Kesehatan for Jabodetabek, Jakarta KADIN, PT. BUMIDA and Trade Union Federation.

For information, commemoration of May Day every May 1 is a holiday for workers and laborers. On this occasion, laborers showed their solidarity by taking to the streets, looking after each other, and remembering how laborers' struggles had brought many changes. The right to take a leave, work for 8 hours, right to have health protection, right to get a day off, and equal wages for men and women are examples of rights they obtained through struggle.
