Jakarta Government through City Park and Forestry Agency closed Public Cemetery (TPU) for grave pilgrimage on May 12-16, 2021 as an effort to prevent COVID-19 spread due to crowd from grave pilgrimage activity along with Eid momentum.

Decision to temporarily close TPU is stated in Circular Letter of Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency Head No. 7/SE/2021 on Controlling Community Activities in Parks, Urban Forests, Ragunan Zoo, and Public Cemeteries in Preventing COVID-19 Transmission during Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijri Holiday on May 12-16, 2021.
Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency Head, Suzi Marsitawati stated, grave pilgrimage activity is temporarily prohibited to avoid crowd due to arrival of pilgrims at the same time.
North Jakarta to Close Nine Public Cemeteries on Wednesday to Sunday"There are 82 Public Cemeteries (TPUs) belonging to Jakarta Government, 14 of them are categorized as large TPU. All TPUs will be closed for grave pilgrimage activity. While funeral service (burial) continues as usual," she explained, Tuesday (5/11).
She added that security guards in TPU will also guard every TPU's entrance gates to inform about temporary closure for grave pilgrimage activity for residents who are still unaware of this policy.
"We also continue to socialize this policy through electronic media and put up banners all over TPUs," she mentioned.
