Not Many People Seen Visiting Public Cemeteries in East Jakarta Today

After being temporarily closed for five days, 34 public cemeteries (TPUs) in East Jakarta are reopened for grave visit activity starting this Monday (5/17).

TPU Pondok Ranggon and TPU Bambu Apus, Cipayung, seemed quite deserted on the first day of TPUs reopening because not many people who were seen visiting the cemeteries.

East Jakarta City Park and Forestry Sub-agency's Forestry and Green Belt Section Head, Atang Setiawan mentioned, situation in public cemeteries are under control. Police and Satpol PP officers no longer guarded the TPUs, only internal security (Pamdal) officers who are guarding each TPUs.

Security Tightened in Public Cemeteries

"All TPUs have been reopened today. But it is still under control, without long queue of visitors. People come to visit the graves of their family members in orderly manner," he said.

During grave visit, his side encouraged people to comply with health protocol, by wearing mask, maintaining safe distance, avoiding crowds, and checking their body temperature before entering public cemeteries.

"It is very important to implement health protocol in preventing COVID-19 transmission," he asserted.

Tonah (43), one of grave visitors at TPU Bambu Apus admitted that he is comfortable in doing grave visit today because it was not overcrowded like the previous year. He also understands that government closed TPUs for grave visit activity on May 12-16.

"The atmosphere is rather quite, no crowd. We must follow government regulations, because all for the common good," he conveyed.
