Jakarta Islamic Centre Grand Mosque Closed Until July 5

Jakarta Islamic Centre (JIC) Grand Mosque Secretariat, North Jakarta, has temporarily suspended worship activities in the mosque, including five daily prayers and Friday prayer, from Tuesday (6/22) to Monday (7/5).

It is taken as an effort to suppress recent increase in COVID-19 cases

JIC Grand Mosque Secretariat Head, Ahmad Juhandi said, temporary suspension of congregational worship activities refers to Jakarta Governor Decree No. 796/2021 on Extension of Micro-Scale Public Activity Restrictions (Micro PPKM).

"It is taken as an effort to suppress recent increase in COVID-19 cases. This policy is also taken after JIC Grand Mosque management held meeting and see the current pandemic situation in Jakarta," he explained, Wednesday (6/23).

After coordinating with Jakarta Mental and Spiritual Education (Dikmental) Bureau, Social Agency, Jakarta Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Koja Sub-district Head, TUgu Utara Urban Village Head, and Koja Health Center Head, it was decided that worship activities in JIC Grand Mosque were temporarily suspended.

But his side ensured that five-time daily prayer call to prayer still echoed from JIC Grand Mosque. Furthermore, five daily prayers in congregation in mosque are only limited for JIC Grand Mosque employees who are on duty that day while implementing strict health protocol. Likewise, da'wah, study, and education activities will be carried out virtually.
