Riverbanks and Reservoirs will Be Transformed into Inspection Road

To anticipate overflowing waters in some rivers and
reservoirs, the North Jakarta Administration is prioritizing a re-function
program against 12 reservoirs and rivers in 2015. Besides dredging, the program
will also be done on the banks through inspection road inspection.

Those 12 rivers and reservoirs are on the west side of
Sentiong river, Sunter river, Angke river, Karang river, Pluit on the east
side, Cakung Drain river, Betik river on the south side, Angkasa river, Lagoa
Buntu river, Cakung Lama river and Banglio river. As planned, inspection road
will be built up to 7 meters wide.
North Jakarta Secretary, Junaedi disclosed normalization
project in the rivers and reservoirs in Jakarta will be unoptimal if the
buildings around the banks are not demolished. This is because such buildings
protrudes into the river and disrupt the water flow.
"Additionally, the normalization project will be
disturbed with the existence of citizen houses. Therefore, we will do
demolishment and build inspection road to prevent illegal buildings in
future," he stated, Thursday (11/20).
At this time, his side has asked urban village apparatus to
collect the data of buildings and households around the riverbank. Afterwards,
the data would be studied, whether it is conducted building replacement or
citizen relocation.
"Certainly, the amount of the illegal buildings in such
area is reaching thousands. If the program is realized, I believe flood areas
in North Jakarta could be suppressed," he expressed.
Meanwhile, Acting North Jakarta Mayor, Tri Kurniadi
disclosed his party has instructed the Regional Working Units (UKPD), such as
Water Management Public Works, Road, Industry and Energy, as well as Parks
Sub-Departments, to realize such program integrally. Each UKPD would be
responsible for handling the project according to its zone.
