Tons of Trashes Stuck Under Rawa Jati Bridge

Not only causes settlements in Jakarta flooded, heavy rain in Bogor and Depok also sends tons of trashes to the capital city, Thursday (11/20). As a result, trashes are piling in some locations, including under Rawa Jati Bridge, Kalibata, South Jakarta.

The trashes stuck under Rawa Jati Bridge were brought last night by floodwater from upstream areas

Most of the trashes stuck under the bridge that connects Pancoran and Kramat Jati sub-districts, are household waste, bamboo, and wood. But until this afternoon, related unit still has not done any action to clean up the trashes.

“The trashes stuck under Rawa Jati Bridge were brought last night by floodwater from upstream areas,” told Deputy Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Isnawa Adji.

According to Adji, his department has prepared the excavator and trucks to pick up the trashes on Ciliwung River. And to accelerate the process, more officers will be added.

“We have prepared the excavator and pickup trucks. But since the traffic is still dense now, the trashes will probably be picked up tonight,” he stated.

Even so, Adji admitted that the trash pickup process would slight obstruct by the existence of utility network on the bridge.

“Because of the utility network, the excavator would probably difficult to do maneuver. We will pick up the trashes from the side of the bridge. At least it could reduce the trash volumes,” he uttered.
