Commemorating 60th Scout Day, Anies Hopes Kwarda Jakarta Maintains Tradition of Patriotism

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan led ceremony to commemorate 60th Scout Day at Balai Agung, Jakarta City Hall, Saturday (8/21). This ceremony was also attended by Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria; Jakarta Scout Regional Kwartir (Kwarda), Fadjar Panjaitan; and Pangdam Jaya, Major General Mulyo Aji.

Young people who are fostered by Scout Movement will develop love for the nation, proud and willing to fight for this country

On this occasion, he reminded great role of youth movement, especially in Jakarta, during the struggle towards independence where the youth movement is the forerunner of scouting which is called the Scout Movement.

"We must realize that Kwarda Jakarta has bigger role than Kwarda in other places because Jakarta is the place where the state formation event took place. It was happened in 1928, there was forging, coaching, thus young people became the forerunner in uniting many ethnic groups into Indonesia," he explained as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

Therefore, he added, it needs coaching and regenerate across ages in order to maintain patriotic tradition of young people. One of them is through Scout Movement carried out by Kwarda Jakarta. "Young people who are fostered by Scout Movement will develop love for the nation, proud and willing to fight for this country. Scout Movement, especially Kwarda Jakarta must continue to be guardian of the tradition in order to create persons who love their homeland," he conveyed.

Moreover, he continued, challenges in the capital city are more complex because Scout Movement in urban area is different from others. In addition, the pandemic situation has made Scout Movement's role and contribution even greater and needed by the community.

"We are in the capital city where the challenges are very big. We see the challenges of urban scouting. We have to make sure that children in Jakarta get a touch of maintaining tradition of struggle in this place," he stated. "And this pandemic is an opportunity for us to fight and save others. There we can see the seeds that will grow into tradition of loving the country sincerely," he closed.
