Jakarta Issues Regional Low Carbon Development Plan to Realize Climate-Resilient City

Jakarta Government has shown its commitment to realize a climate-resilient city through the issuance of Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) No. 90/2021 on Regional Low Carbon Development Plan (RPRKD).

Jakarta is the first province in Indonesia to have RPRKD

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan mentioned that RPRKD is a comprehensive regional-level regulation regarding actions on climate change that integrate mitigation and adaptation actions in Jakarta.

"Jakarta is the first province in Indonesia to have RPRKD in accordance with mandate of National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN 2020-2024). For the first time, through this plan, climate change adaptation actions are regulated in a legal product," he said as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release, Friday (10/15).

This RPRKD, he added, is the manifestation of Jakarta's ambitious commitment and active contribution to achieving Indonesia's National Determined Contribution (NDC). Jakarta carries out a comprehensive innovation, in which climate change mitigation and adaptation actions, are applied in balanced manner, considering that climate change adaptation actions are often forgotten. In addition, he mentioned that RPRKD regulation is mainstreaming the issue of climate change and regional development.

Anies targets to reduce the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 30 percent and even 50 percent by 2030. Jakarta is also targeted to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

"Our commitment is to realize Jakarta as climate-resilient city, Jakarta can achieve target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) by 30% and even 50% by 2030, and net zero emission by 2050," he asserted.

In parallel, Jakarta is committed to improving community's adaptive capacity in dealing with climate disasters by reducing areas that are categorized as vulnerable and highly vulnerable to climate disasters. For information, RPRKD issuance is in accordance with Paris Agreement, which is the global agenda for dealing with climate change.
