Let's Enliven JIPFest 2021 at Jakarta Kota Tua!

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Agency finally kicks off again Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) in Jakarta, on Wednesday (11/17).

We hope it will be a kind of pilot event that revives tourism and the economy

It will take place in Kota Tua area, West Jakarta from November, 13-28. Present-day works are exhibited in places that immortalize the past. Locations that JIPFest will use are Candra Naya & Novotel Jakarta Gajah Mada, MULA Kotatua Jakarta, Historia Food & Bar, and Fatahillah Park.

This international photo festival features 10 programs and more than 40 guest stars. Acting as curators this year are Kurniadi Widodo (Yogyakarta), Ng Swan Ti (Jakarta), and Sayed Asif Mahmud (Dhaka, Bangladesh).

City Supports JIPFest 2019 in Jakarta

Parekraf Agency Head, Andhika Permata said, JIPFest 2021 carries the theme SPACE, with the intention of exploring the issue of 'space' in various interpretations and forms, from public spaces, inner spaces, to virtual spaces.

It is part of an effort to encourage the growth of tourism and the creative economy, especially in photography sub-sector.

"We hope it will be a kind of pilot event that revives tourism and the economy by implementing strict health protocols," he expressed.

JIPFest 2021 Festival Director, Cristian Rahadiansyah revealed, it was not only a celebration of photography, but also part of Jakarta's recovery from the pandemic.

"Like it or not, pandemics are part of the reality of life, and it is impossible to predict when it will end. What we can do is try to keep life moving while maintaining health conditions. Hopefully the event can maintain that balance," he stated.

As for the information, more than 40 photographers, arts and culture actors, as well as academics will be present as guests at JIPFest 2021. Several names that have confirmed their presence are Amalia Trisna Sari (cinematographer), Beawiharta (photographer and photo editor), Joshua Irwandi (documentary photographer), Teguh Widjaja (pandemic photo book maker), Ulet Ifansasti (photojournalist), and Yudhi Soerjoatmodjo (producer, curator, educator).

There will be 10 programs that are open free to the public. Besides photo exhibition, there is a workshop program that aims to improve the skills of photographers.

In Public Lecture, Discussion, and Artist Talk program, visitors can join presentations and debates on various issues around photography.

There will also be a Photo Book Exhibition program featuring 26 selected photo books. Visitors can join in Projection Night program, which is a special step-in screen for photo and multimedia works.

To support the recovery of Jakarta's tourism, the event also presents two weekend tourism programs in Kota Tua, namely Festival Tour and Urban Photo Tour, which are dedicated to street photography fans.

Providing space for public participation, it has a Fringe program, where communities and organizations from all over Indonesia can present their own events.

As for the Photo Exhibition program, the three curators have selected 15 works by photographers from 12 countries. Those works were selected from an open screening process that collected 398 works from 47 countries.

Some of the photographers selected for the exhibition were Roger Grasas (Spain), Maria Lax (Finland), Sina Niemeyer (Germany), Chris Bunjamin (Jakarta) and Putu Sayoga (Bali).
