Five Schools in Central Jakarta Chosen as Pilot Project for Archive Digitization

Jakarta Library and Archive (Perpusip) Agency digitized important archives in five schools in Central Jakarta, namely SMA Negeri 68, SMK Negeri 1, SMK Negeri 27, SMA Negeri 35, and SMA Negeri 77 in order to save important archives in schools that hadn't been digitized yet.

Later on , those schools will be a role model for other schools in Jakarta in terms of digitizing important archives

Jakarta Perpusip Agency Head, Wahyu Haryadi conveyed, digitizing archives was carried out by transferring data or information on printed, written, or drawn archives into digital format without reducing the contents of the original. On this occasion, his side only digitized important archives under 2000 that haven't been digitized.

This activity was carried out as a continuation of socialization conducted by Jakarta Perpusip Agency some time ago to SMA/SMK (high/vocational schools) in Jakarta in order to save personal archives and important school documents.

"Because this is the first time, we choose five schools in Central Jakarta as pilot project. Later, those schools will be a role model for other schools in Jakarta in terms of digitizing important archives, such as old student master book. Because there are cases where important school documents or archives are lost," he said, Monday (11.22),

He explained that archive digitization process in those five schools was carried out in turn by deploying two archivists. This service will continue until all archives that meet the criteria have been digitized.

Along with this digitization service, archivists also provide guidance to school regarding arrangement of archives. Its purpose is to increase school awareness about the importance of organizing and saving important archives, as well as supporting government to achieve target of all national archives to go digital by 2024.

"We also educate educational units that archive storage and management are important," he stated.
