The Law No. 11/2020 on Job Creation is a milestone for the development of the Indonesian broadcasting industry. The Omnibuslaw reinforces Indonesia's position towards digital broadcasting. Its implementation is no later than two years after the enactment of the law in November 2022 that was marked by the Analog Switch Off (ASO).

Jakarta's Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) Vice Head Rizky Wahyuni said, ASO is an event stopping analog broadcasting in the broadcasting industry from switching to digital broadcast technology.
"The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Agreement as of June 16, 2006 in Geneva, provides a deadline for worldwide analogue broadcasts on June 17, 2015. European and American countries have already implemented ASO. Compared to other countries, Indonesia is slow in implementing ASO. The first phase of ASO in Indonesia was carried out in 11 service areas, including in Jakarta entering the stage 1 ASO as of June 30 - August 17," he expressed, Wednesday (3/31).
Appreciating FGD Held By KPID Jakarta, Ariza Urges Jakartans to Be Prepared to Face Analog Switch Off 2022In its implementation, the ASO would have at least 66 percent of the households (equivalent to 44.5 million households) affected, including 10 million people in Jakarta. In simple terms, broadcast digitization could be described as the process of converting and compressing analog signals into binary code.
He explained that the efficiency of the use of the frequency band became the digital advantage of analog to digital switching. The efficient use of frequencies was intended for disasters, internet, education, aviation, the telecommunications business, etc.
"This broadcast is Free to Air (FTA). Residents do not need to replace tube TVs using UHF antennas, yet only need to increase the use of STB (set top box). Another benefit of this frequency savings will be the emergence of multichannel. The government has appointed eight multiflexer managers in Jakarta," he said.
If one multiflexing manager using a digital module transmits five TV broadcasts (HD) or 13 TV broadcasts (SD), there were at least 64 HDTV and 104 SDTV channels in Jakarta.
He added that the increase in channels at ASO would present a more segmented multi-program broadcast with certain types of programming. in facing the digitalization of broadcasting, the Jakarta KPID had prepared a Smart Movement, which is an acronym for Careful, Empathy, Responsive, Discipline, Active, and Selective (CERDAS) as an action that can be taken in response to a change.
He said that there were at least three elements/parties being prepared to become CERDAS, namely the government, broadcasting institutions/broadcasting business actors, and the community.
The momentum of the 88th broadcasting day would be used as a momentum to make a joint commitment to create Jakarta CERDAS people in guarding digital broadcasting.
Through Communication, Informatic and Statistic Agency, Education Agency and Nations and Associations/Television and radio on April 1, 2021 at 1 PM - 2:30 PM, at Jakarta City Hall was slated to hold a joint commitment to Prepare Smart Jakarta Communities to face Broadcasting Digitalization.
