Jak Jazz in Setu Babakan Went Festive

Although heavy rain poured the city, the visitors of Jakarta Jazz Festival (Jak Jazz) were still enthusiastic to watch the show which held at Setu Babakan Betawi Culture Village (PBB), Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, Saturday (11/29). The event was part of the Betawi Arts and Culture Festival initiated by Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department on November 29-30 in Lapangan Banteng, Kuningan, and Setu Babakan.

“Too bad it’s raining hard, because a jazz event in Setu Babakan is something different. All this time, Setu Babakan is strongly connected with Betawi traditional nuances, like lenong or gambang kromong,” expressed Heni (32), one of the visitors.

Besides Heni, hundreds of visitors were seen enjoying much of the jazz music played by famous jazz musicians, namely Inna Kamarie, Zarro Devega, IKEI Insomaniac, Krintjong Poetri, Pengantar Minum Racun (PMR), and Indonesian jazz maestro Mus Mujiono.

“Indeed there is a different color. Setu Babakan usually displayed Betawi cultures, but now there is Jak Jazz,” said Wani, Setu Babakan PBB caretaker.

Jak Jazz this year performed a different format by holding it in a public open space. Besides Setu Babakan PBB, the event is also held at Santa Market, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, and the main event at Monas Plaza Park south side on upcoming December 7.

With a fresh concept, Jak Jazz is ready to be the media for jazz musicians towards international event in the hope that jazz music could be known and closer to the people from all walks of life.
