Around 68 out of 72 infiltration wells being made in Cipayung Urban Village area, East Jakarta have been completed. Four other wells are still under construction.

Cipayung Urban Village Head, Yulian Fathiniah explained, 13 out of 72 wells are part of the East Jakarta Mayor's Regional Strategic Activities Program (KSD).

"Its construction involves PPSU personnel using a drilling machine from the sub-district, while the material comes from the results of non-governmental organizations," she expressed, Friday (12/10).

As for the rest 59 wells are the responsibility of Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency. 55 of them in eight neighborhoods were completed and the rest are still in process.

"This project is targeted to be completed by the end of this year," she said.

She explained, benefits of this infiltration well felt by Juniatun (48), a resident who lives in RW 02, Cipayung Urban Village. She admitted, there were two wells as deep as 20 meters and managed to tackle flooding in her area quickly.

"Before the well was made, our area was often flooded up to four to five hours. But now it subsided in just 30 minutes," she admitted.

He hoped that the number of wells could be increased to minimize flooding when it rains with high intensity. Thus when it is dry, the residents' groundwater reserves are sufficient.
