Jakarta KPAP Holds Webinar About People With HIV AIDS Who Missed Scheduled Visits

Jakarta Provincial Commission for Combating AIDS (KPAP) held webinar regarding performance of Loss to Follow Up (LTFU) tracking team throughout Jakarta Province on Monday (12/13). The speakers conveyed various important things based on experience in the field and research.

The resource person, Marina Nurrahmani explained about psychosocial support and challenges for People Living With HIV AIDS (PLWHA). She said that psych
osocial support for PLWHA is very important thus treatment such as taking ARV is effective thus PLWHA LTFU is reduced."Research findings indicate that individuals (PLWHA) with higher emotional regulation capacity (more capable to accept and understand emotions and be adaptive even under pressure) perceive fewer barriers to adherence to treatment," she mentioned.
Jakarta KPAP Holds Workshop on Role of Media in Combating HIV/AIDSPsychosocial support, she continued, is all forms of activity that focuses on strengthening psychological factors and individual social relations with the environment. In this regard, appropriate steps in implementing counseling are needed. These include facilitating access to medication taking (but still according to regulation), providing separate counseling room and waiting room to ensure confidentiality and protecting clients from other sick patients.
She stated that several psychological aspects in implementing psychosocial support must be considered. Those include life goals, knowledge, awareness, motivation, emotion regulation, trust, relationship quality, and openness.
"Emotional aspect consists of two types of thoughts, rational or thoughts based on facts and irrational or thoughts that are only based on assumptions. Second is body sensations, then third is behavior, where there are adaptive and maladaptive,"
Other source person, Inlicia Cutami conveyed several other strategies, namely asking patients for the latest contacts in implementing the service and direct visit to patient's home.
For category in tracing include clients who haven't been initiated, clients who have missed scheduled visit (Missed Appointment), and clients who are LTFU. Tracing is carried out in various ways. In accordance with technological developments, namely home visit, tracing which is carried out by using social media, telephone, SMS, and so on.
"In order to urge patients to continue their treatment, it is necessary to provide continuous health information, especially regarding benefits of taking medication regularly and counseling," she added.
For information, the results of tracing PLWHA LTFU Jakarta KPAP 2021 are as follows:
- Total traced : 500 PLHIV LTFU where 85 PLHIV changed address/city/domicile/going home, 55 PLHIV referred out/changed service, 137 PLHIV died, 112 PLHIV were not found, 111 PLHIV LTFU were found (22%), 79 PLHIV (71%) who were found and willing to take RTV again.
- Restart ARW, 4 PLHIVs are willing to be referred to health facilities and 28 PLHIV do not return services and don't access ARV for various season.
