1,260 Trees to Be Planted in East Jakarta

To muffle pollution from motor vehicle exhausts, as many as 1,260 trees will be planted at some points in East Jakarta, namely Pondok Kelapa, Ujung Menteng, Pulomas, Ciracas, Rambutan, Dukuh, and Pasar Rebo. The types of trees are mahogany, tamarind, eucalyptus, walnut, and productive plants such as rambutan and hamlet.

“The trees selected are to restore the characteristic of each region in East Jakarta. For instance, rambutan tree for Rambutan Urban Village and hamlet tree for Dukuh Urban Village,” said Head of Forestry Section for East Jakarta Agriculture and Forestry Sub-Department, William Bongger, Tuesday (12/2).

According to him, this trees planting activity is also useful for reforestation and restore the function of water absorptions. Thus, the quality of groundwater can be maintained well.

At this time, in the municipality there are 12 urban forests which maintenance lies in the hands of East Jakarta Agriculture and Forestry Sub-Department. Among those urban forests are Rawa Dongkel, Kopassus Cijantung Housing Complex, Pondok Kelapa, Halim Perdanakusuma, Pulomas, Cawang UKI, and Pulogadung.
