East Jakarta Parks Sub-Department will prune 1,400 trees which age over 10 years to anticipate casualty due to fallen tree during rainy season. The pruning is predicted to finish in upcoming December.
If not pruned, those trees are prone to fall in rainy season
“Most of those trees are angsana trees which age are more than 10 years old. Other trees to be pruned are those which leaves already thick. If not pruned, those trees are prone to fall in rainy season,” stated Head of East Jakarta Parks Sub-Department, Suzi Marzitawati, Monday (11/24).
According to Marzitawati, trees pruning is routinely done every year, primarily to new buds on tree trunks. The trees’ height and shade should not be larger than the roots underneath.

The 1,400 trees to be pruned are located in various locations, such as Viaduk Jatinegara Park, Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Jalan Matraman Raya, Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Jalan Kolonel Sugiono, and Jalan Raden Inten.
“In pruning trees, we prioritize citizens’ requests first who usually worry with the shade trees around their houses and ask those trees to be pruned,” uttered Marzitawati.
