Adding up to existing 160 electric train (KRL) carriages, as many as 16 carriages made in Japan arrived in Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, Friday (12/5). After being certified and operated, these carriages would be able to add commuter line trip up to 30 trips in the Greater Jakarta.

We predict that each carriage would be able to add about 10-15 trips

“Those 16 KRL carriages will be brought to the Yasa Hall to be modified and certified. These processes are predicted would take a month or two,” stated PT KAI Commuter Jakarta (KCJ) Communication Manager, Eva Chairunisa, Friday (12/05).

According to Chairunisa, those 16 carriages will be assembled into two train units, with each carriage able to carry about 230 people.

“We predict that each carriage would be able to add about 10-15 trips. Since last January, we have added 137 trips per day,” she told.

At this time there are 900 commuter line carriages. These carriages are able to carry 650-700 thousand passengers per day with a total of 967 trips. Thus, the additional carriages are expected would be able to shorten the time of train arrival.

“All this time, at the peak of density of passengers in the morning, the waiting time of train arrival could reach 30 minutes. With the additional 16 KRL carriages, it is expected could shorten train arrival up to 5-10 minutes,” she uttered.
