800 Cubic Meters of Waste Transported from Manggarai Sluice Gate

As many as 800 cubic meters of waste had been transported from the Manggarai Sluice Gate, Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (2/17). The waste was washed away during heavy rains that flushed the Greater Jakarta area last night.

Central Jakarta Water Agency UPK Executing Unit Head, Farry Andhiko expressed, at 2 AM, the water level at the sluice gate touched 745 cm or at alert level 3, causing a pile of waste.

"After Katulampa Sluice Gate in Bogor at alert level 3 with a water level of 100 cm and Depok at alert level 3 with a water level of 200 cm yesterday afternoon, we are ready to anticipate shipments of waste that arrives at 2 AM," he explained.

He furthered the current volume of waste entering the Manggarai Sluice Gate has increased sharply and is being cleaned. Until 11.30 AM, around 800 cubic meters had been transported.

The waste transported was dominated by tree cuttings, bamboo, mattresses, and household waste materials. They would be taken to the Bantargebang landfill.

"We use 15 trucks and three heavy equipment to transport waste from the river," he closed.
