Pemerintah Tetapkan 1 Ramadan 1443 H Jatuh pada Minggu 3 April 2022

Government Sets the Beginning of Ramadan on April 3

The Ministry of Religion has set the beginning of Ramadan 1443 Hijri which will fall on Sunday (4/3), 2022. It was agreed at the isbat (confirmation) meeting which was held on Friday (4/1) at HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religion's Office, Jakarta.

People can start Ramadan fasting on Sunday

Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas said the isbat meeting began with the presentation from the hilal monitoring team consisting of hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyat (new moon observation).

"Hopefully, with the result of isbat meeting, all Indonesian Muslims can fast together," he said.

He explained that hilal monitoring was carried out at 101 observation points throughout Indonesia. From the result of today's monitoring, the majority had not seen the new moon (hilal).

Based on hisab, the height of the new moon in all parts of Indonesia was in position between 1 degree 6.78 minutes to 2 degrees 10.02 minutes. This showed that the height of hilal was already above the horizon. However, it had not met the criteria for the new mabims, namely 3 degrees for the height of the new moon and 6.4 degrees for elongation angle.

"With the new moon position, people can start Ramadan fasting on Sunday," he stated.
