South Jakarta LH Sub-agency Head M. Amin conveyed that his side used the black soldier flies (BSF) method to run independent organic waste management.
"Previously, we had intensified independent organic waste development in Pesanggrahan and Tebet sub-districts. Now, we are implementing a similar program in Cilandak Sub-district in collaboration with the maggot community and activists," he explained, Thursday (4/28).

"The volume of organic waste processed from Cilandak Sub-district reaches 300-700 kilograms per day. The capacity will be massively increased after Eid," he mentioned.
His side chose to collaborate with the maggot community to reduce the organic waste because the BSF method could produce a promising economic circulation.
He added that organic waste in Tebet Sub-district decreased drastically by around one ton a day. While in Pesanggrahan, it decreased by around 1.6 tons a day.
"Hopefully, we can carry out a similar organic waste management in Cilandak to reduce South Jakarta waste that will be disposed to Bantar Gebang TPA," he stated.
