South Jakarta Develops Waste Management with Smart City Concept

The South Jakarta Government continues to be committed to developing household waste management through the establishment of waste banks with a smart city concept in every RW. This commitment was marked by the inauguration of a smart city concept waste bank at Duta Pondok Indah Housing, Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama.

"The waste bank this time applies a cashless system, both for membership fees and the results for collecting and sorting inorganic waste," he conveyed, Saturday (4/2).

The operation of a waste bank could reduce inorganic waste volume by about half a ton for each time it was transported by South Jakarta Environment (LH) Sub-agency.

"Residents outside Duta Pondok Indah Housing are also increasingly aware of depositing sorted inorganic waste to RW 14 waste bank. We will also promote the same concept to other RWs in South Jakarta," he mentioned.

South Jakarta LH Sub-agency Head Muhammad Amin explained that around 288 waste banks in 579 RWs and 22 Islamic boarding schools in South Jakarta had sorted inorganic waste. Socialization is also carried out intensively to raise public awareness to sort their inorganic waste.

"We also collaborate with Kaktus Indonesia to manage organic waste through maggot cultivation. Thus, only waste residue from South Jakarta will be disposed of at Bantar Gebang TPA," he explained.

Pondok Pinang RW 14 Head Anton added that residents transport the sorted inorganic waste every two weeks.

"We have made a schedule. Residents will come to deposit the sorted inorganic waste when the waste bank is opened. The money they earn from depositing the sorted waste will be directly transferred to their bank account," he explained.
