2 Rivers Overflowed, Pondok Labu Residents Evacuated

Heavy rain that showered on Monday (11/24) afternoon led to two rivers overflow. Those rivers were Grogol and Krukut, which caused the settlements in Pondok Labu Urban Village, South Jakarta, flooded up to one meter high.

The water has reached 1.5 meters and the residents asked to be evacuated

“Grogol river began to overflow at 5 PM. Down there (settlement on the riverbank), the water is more than one meter high,” told Mardi (42), an RT 01/10 Pondok Labu resident whose house flooded for as high as 50 centimeters, Monday (11/24).

Mardi admitted that Grogol River often overflows during rainy season. However, the residents whose houses located on the riverbank are already familiar with the condition.

“We’re always ready when heavy rain pours. We make levee made from sandbags and evacuate our valuables to upper floors as well as park our motorcycles in safe streets,” he uttered.

Meanwhile, Head of Pondok Labu Urban Village, Siti Fauziah, stated that her party evacuated flood victims on Jalan Haji Ipin, RT 12/10, due to the water level had reached 1.5 meters.

“The water has reached 1.5 meters and the residents asked to be evacuated. We have coordinated sub-district party to send rubber boats that can enter into narrow settlements,” she explained.

According to Fauziah, there were about 82 residents at RT 12/10 evacuated and 70 people at RT 12/03.

“Krukut River passes RT 12 and 9, RW 03. Based on the latest data, 70 people have been evacuated, while others prefer to stay in their homes or residents’ houses which have not been flooded yet,” she said.
