Thousand Islands Promotes Environmental Preservation in Developing Tourism

The Thousand Islands Regency encourages the development of tourism with the dimensions of memories and environmental preservation which leads to a creative economy.

It was stated by Thousand Islands Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan while attending the commemoration of the two-decade anniversary of the Thousand Islands National Park on Pramuka Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, North Thousand Islands, on Monday (6/13).

"The tourism development is closely related to the environment. We must maintain the natural potential of Thousand Islands, such as mangrove trees, coral reefs, and various types of colorful fish," he mentioned.

He also appreciated the Ministry of Environment's Directorate General for Conservation of Natural Resources Ecosystem (KSDAE) which for two decades had been preserving the Thousand Islands National Park.

"The Thousand Island Regency continues to support positive activities for the marine environment. Hopefully, this cooperation can be maintained thus there will be more programs related to tourism and the environment," he conveyed.

Ministry of Environment's Directorate General Secretary of Natural Resources Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) Suharyono said that Thousand Islands National Park has high natural potential. Thus, it was the duty and responsibility of all stakeholders, both the government and the local community, to maintain the sustainability of the national park.

"Let's take care and preserve this national park by conserving coral reefs and mangrove forests for our children and grandchildren. Use this momentum to increase collaboration between elements, because this conservation cannot run alone. These two decades can be an encouragement to develop Thousand Islands," he expressed.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) Dharma Wanita Persatuan Chairperson Ambar Bambang Hendroyono said there was a series of activities to commemorate the two-decade anniversary, such as releasing dozens of turtles and providing staple food assistance to residents.

"Turtles release is expected to help restore their habitat and preserve marine ecosystem. We also distribute staple food assistance to local organizations as our gratitude for these two decades," she uttered.
