New Year`s Eve Left 85 Tons of Waste

The trash left from New Year's Eve celebration in the capital is lower from 680 tons last year to 85 tons this year.

The amount is spread in five city administration, especially at the celebration points. Mostly the trash is dominated by trumpets, fireworks, and food.

Jakarta Head Dept. of Cleanliness, Saptasari Ediningtyas, said this reduction is caused by massive socialization to citizens for not littering, as well as high awareness in maintaining the surrounding cleanliness.

"Yes, the amount of trash is lower compared to last year," she said, Thursday (1/1).

According to her, the 85 tons of trash consisted 35 tons from Jakarta Night Festival and Monas. Last year, the trash left from JNF was 150 tons, and all locations was 50 tons.

Some crowd points in the capital are Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta, Ancol North Jakarta, Taman Fatahillah-Kota Tua West Jakarta, Ragunan Zoo South Jakarta and other places.
