Idul Adha, Jakarta - Kementan Unlocks Cooperation on Provision of Qurbani Animals and Strategic Food

Therefore, the Jakarta administration made a sign of a Memorandum Understanding (MoU)with the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) in terms of supporting the provision of Qurbani animals (animal sacrifice) and strategic food in the Greater Jakarta area, at the Kementan Office, South Jakarta.

The scope of the cooperation includes the preparation and submission of data, strategic food supply, provision of Qurbani animals from livestock center provinces, and technical assistance on animal health.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan disclosed that it was urgently needed in Jakarta, especially ahead of Idul Adha. Around 47,000 animals were projected to be slaughtered for sacrifice and distributed to the Greater Jakarta area.

"We have received 42,000 animals so far and they will undergo quarantine and other procedures. By so, we hope that Jakarta is free from foot-and-mouth (FMD) disease. There are still 5,000 animals on the way, which are predicted to be completed before Idul Adha celebrations," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Tuesday (7/4).

According to him, the support should be appreciated considering all food needs in Jakarta about 95 percent are supplied from outside the region. Hence, the issue of supply certainty has always been the administration's focus thus the Central Government's support always brings fresh air to residents, especially in Jakarta.

"We can be calmer, price conditions are more stable, and if prices are stable then inflation is under control. If inflation is controlled with Jakarta's contribution of around 18 percent of the national GDP, national inflation will also be controlled. If it is under control, it means that housewives are not worried about prices, as prices are stable and hopefully it will be ongoing," he explained.

"Thank you, Minister, and all staff for this commitment to support. We hope that the other cities also get the same support. InsyaAllah, all of Indonesia's inflation will be under control," he added.

Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo uttered that the cooperation should be done in the interest of the community's food needs. Hopefully, it could continue to be strengthened for the stability of prices for basic needs in the food sector and the prices were affordable for the community.

"We are always open as a support system for food needs in various regions. We always maintain the distribution of food to prevent price hikes. In this matter, we appreciate the responsive Governor for collaborating with us. Hopefully, in the future, this collaboration will be more solid and sustainable," he concluded.

As for the information, the cooperation was made symbolically by releasing several trucks that would transport strategic food supplies and sacrificial livestock. The trucks would be distributed to the Greater Jakarta area by the Governor and Minister of Agriculture.

The following is the role and support of the Kementan in the provision of Qurbani animals and strategic food in Jakarta:

- Coordinate and supply strategic food in Jakarta

- Coordinate strategic food delivery to Jakarta

- Coordinate and supply sacrificial animals for Jakarta from the livestock center provinces

- Coordinate the delivery of sacrificial animals and transportation equipment from the livestock center provinces to Jakarta with related ministries/agencies

- Provide technical assistance for animal health inspection and slaughter of Qurbani animals
