Let's Enjoy Augmented Reality Mural Artwork at the Kendal Tunnel

The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Parekraf) and the Jakarta Experience Board PT Jakarta Tourisindo (JXB Jaktour) collaborated with Disney Indonesia to present an Augmanted Reality Mural in the Kendal Tunnel from July 5 to 15, 2022.

In the tunnel, a mural art piece was created that combines the narrative and the big theme of the City of Jakarta

What's interesting is that the mural, painted by local artists, is inspired by the Bifrost Bridge in the Thor film and utilizes Augmented Reality (AR) technology. So, people who visit the Kendal Tunnel will be served different entertainment and experiences.

To enjoy it, visitors simply scan the barcode via a smartphone, then the mural image will move.

In the mural, Kita Art Friends collaborates with two talented Indonesian artists, Ismanto Wahyudi and Nano Warsono. Wahyudi describes Asgard, with important elements such as Thor's ship, Bifrost Bridge to beautiful Asgard scenery.

The unique thing about Wahyudi's work is there are many iconic places typical of Jakarta, such as the Monas Monument and the Welcome Monument.

It is different from Warsono, which combines one of the iconic moments of the Thor film with traditional icons of Jakarta society such as Ondel-Ondel (giant effigies).

These two paintings when viewed using AR technology via the application from Kita Art Friends will experience changes such as moving ships and others.

Parekraf Agency Head Andhika Permata said Jakarta is open to collaborating with creative economy industry players who want to participate in coloring and enlivening the Jakarta Hajatan.

It includes making the Kendal Tunnel a public space that is attractive to the public by cooperating with Disney Indonesia as one of the collaborators to stimulate local mural creators to beautify the city.

“As one of the public spaces with high mobility, the presence of murals with bright colors will attract the attention of residents. Of course, this is one of the new experiences in Jakarta," he expressed, Tuesday (7/12).

JXB President Director Novita Dewi explained that this art collaboration program is a form of JXB's commitment as a catalyst to accommodate collaborators who want to contribute together in creating new experiences in Jakarta.

According to him, it could also accommodate local artists and communities to better connect with Indonesian audiences, particularly in Jakarta.

"In the tunnel, a mural art piece was created that combines the narrative and the big theme of the City of Jakarta and the latest Marvel Studios film 'Thor: Love and Thunder'. That is a unique combination that will be an exciting surprise for Jakarta residents," she said.

As for the information, in the Thor film, the Bifrost Bridge is a bridge that the Asgardians pass through to enter various dimensions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Bifrost Bridge serves as a gateway and transportation hub for the Asgardians. This characteristic is in line with the tunnel which is also a meeting point and connects various public transportations in Jakarta.

The art collaboration at the Kendal Tunnel with Disney Indonesia is a very relevant step in implementing Jakarta's 495th Anniversary theme and a manifestation of Jakarta's commitment.

This step is also to support local artists and communities in their work, providing a public space that offers a unique experience for residents to coincide with the moment of welcoming the release of Marvel Studios' latest film 'Thor: Love and Thunder'.
